NJ EMS Award Descriptions

Outstanding EMS Call ‑ Honors an individual, multiple individuals, or teams on the same incident for an outstanding call/incident/rescue by EMS personnel.
 
Outstanding EMS Action by a Youth – Honors a child (15 years or younger) for a lifesaving act in which quick thinking, fast action and heroism were demonstrated, or, for unique advocacy of EMS in New Jersey.
 
Outstanding EMS Action by a Citizen ‑ Honors a private citizen for a lifesaving act in which quick thinking, fast action and heroism were demonstrated, or, for unique advocacy of EMS in New Jersey.
 
Outstanding First Responder ‑ Honors a first responder affiliated with an organization (e.g., police, fire, industrial) who has assumed a leadership role by achievement in areas of on-scene patient care, outstanding rescue, public access to EMS, disaster preparedness, public education, and/or training. (Nominee must only be trained to a maximum of a First Responder level)
 
Outstanding EMT ‑ Honors a currently certified EMT who has assumed a leadership role in EMS by achievement in areas of patient care, public access to EMS, disaster preparedness, public education, and/or training in New Jersey.  (Nominee must only be trained to a maximum of a EMT level)
 
Outstanding Paramedic ‑ Honors a currently recognized Paramedic or Flight Paramedic who has assumed a leadership role in EMS or the inter-facility environment by achievement in areas of patient care, public access to EMS, disaster preparedness, public education, and/or training.
 
Outstanding ALS-SCTU Nurse - Honors a currently recognized MICN, SCTU-RN, or Flight Nurse who has assumed a leadership role in EMS or the inter-facility environment by achievement in areas of patient care, public access to EMS, disaster preparedness, public education, and/or training.
 
Outstanding EMS Physician ‑ Honors a physician who has served as a medical director, on or off‑line, for either an ALS or a BLS service, and who has made a positive contribution to EMS in New Jersey.
 
Outstanding EMS Administrator ‑ Honors an EMS administrator on a local, county, regional, or state level who has served EMS in some capacity and who has made a positive contribution to EMS in New Jersey by achievement in areas of patient care, public access to EMS, disaster preparedness, public education, and/or training.
 
Outstanding EMS Educator ‑ Honors a certified EMT instructor, course coordinator or clinical educator who has advanced EMS education in New Jersey through outstanding organization or innovation in the delivery of educational programs to EMS personnel.
 
Outstanding  EMS Agency ‑ Honors a EMS agency that has assumed a leadership role in EMS by achievement in areas of patient care, public access to EMS, disaster preparedness, public education and/or training in New Jersey.  The service maintains a positive image in the community and has taken meaningful and visible steps to assure quality of patient care, professionalism of its personnel and identifying and taking steps to improve the service in areas such as response times, quality improvement programs and continuing education.
 
 EMS Volunteer Lifetime Achievement Award ‑ Honors an individual for lifetime achievement (service of 20 or more years) in the EMS field.  At least 15 years of that experience must have been as an EMS volunteer.  A commemorative plaque will also be permanently displayed in the NJ Office of EMS.
 
EMS Career Lifetime Achievement Award ‑ Honors an individual for lifetime achievement (service of 20 or more years) in the EMS field.  At least 15 years of that experience must have been as a career EMS employee.  A commemorative plaque will also be permanently displayed in the NJ Office of EMS.
 
Outstanding Hospital ER Nurse – Honors a registered nurse who demonstrates excellence in the provision of high quality clinical care for patients transitioning from the pre-hospital environment into the emergency department and supports the enhancement of EMS care through mentorship.
 
Outstanding Emergency Preparedness – Honors an individual or agency who has contributed to the overall preparedness efforts in New Jersey by increasing its capabilities and capacity to effectively respond to a state of emergency as well as demonstrates outstanding knowledge and expertise in the field of Emergency Preparedness.
 
Outstanding EMS Safety Award– Honors individual or agency who has demonstrated excellence in the area of safety in the field of Emergency Medical Services.
